My Background
Hi there! My name is Victor Camacho, and I have been a professional tutor and educator for the past 20 years. I grew up in Watsonville, CA and was raised by a couple of incredible public school teachers. I developed a love for math and science early in life and a passion for teaching and athletics as I got older. I ran track and cross country at Wastonville High School and then at Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, CA where I majored in mathematics and graduated with honors in 2007.
I began tutoring in 2003 while in college. I helped my classmates and local high school students in different levels of math, physics, chemistry, and computer science. I spent my summers in college working for Johns Hopkins University's Center for Talented Youth program. I moved to Salt Lake City, UT in 2007 to pursue a Ph.D. in mathematics at the University of Utah. While earning my degree, I worked as a math instructor at the university for 7 years. Separately, I spent thousands of hours privately tutoring hundreds of students in the Salt Lake Area from elementary school kids through Ph.D. students. I have tutored people in all levels of math, statistics, physics, chemistry, computer science, economics, finance, and accounting. I have also helped hundreds of people improve their scores on standardized tests such as the SAT, ACT, GRE, GMAT, MCAT, ASVAB, and Accuplacer!
In 2011, I founded a tutoring and test prep company in Salt Lake City called "High Performance Tutoring". My goal was to assemble a team of incredibly talented tutors who could help in a variety of academic subjects and service a larger geographic area than what I could cover on my own. Since its inception, the company has grown considerably. We now tutors in the metro areas of Salt Lake City, Denver, San Francisco, and San Diego.
I moved to Coronado, CA in June 2018 where I have continued to tutor students privately for the past 6 years. I also spend a great deal of time managing and growing my company, High Performance Tutoring. I love what I do and I love living in Coronado. The community here is welcoming, the climate is incredible, and there is so much to do :)

Many people casually tutor while in college or between jobs to supplement their income. It is rare to find someone who has actually made academic tutoring their career as I have.
Through my years of experience as a student, teacher, and tutor, I have developed an excellent understanding of how people learn. I know how to break down difficult concepts in ways that are simple. I know how to motivate students who don't seem to care about school and foster a growth mindset. I understand different learning styles and can quickly adapt to each student by controlling the tempo of my voice, the time between breaks, the type and amount of interactivity, the level of abstraction, the category of information, etc. I work hard to make every hour of tutoring with every student as enjoyable and beneficial as possible. Tutors must have a lot of patience and optimism.
Hiring a mediocre tutor can have a negative impact on a student's learning. Students become less motivated if they have a poor experience. Tutoring, like anything else, is one of those things where you get what you pay for. It is always worth paying the extra money to hire an experienced professional and do things the right way.
