Scoring high on the SAT or ACT dramatically improves your college and scholarship opportunities. However, I frequently see straight-A students earn average scores on these important tests. This happens because grades in school and the SAT/ACT measure completely different skill sets. You can earn high grades by having great work ethic, memory, focus, and attitude. You earn high SAT/ACT scores from reasoning skills, math/language knowledge, reading comprehension, attention to detail, and quick thinking. Standard high school classes do not adequately prepare students for the challenges they will face on the ACT and SAT.
For the past 15 years I have developed and improved my own time-tested ACT/SAT program which I use with my private students and with my company, High Performance Tutoring. My program adapts to the learning styles and particular strengths/weaknesses of each individual student. I have written all my own curriculum and use other publications strategically to cover an ideal blend of concept review, testing strategies, and practice problems proven do dramatically improve performance on the SAT and ACT. For best results, students should plan to devote 3 - 5 hours per week of studying during the 6 - 12 weeks leading up to the test date. I recommend students attempt the tests multiple times. Training during the summer months is a great strategy for students who are otherwise too busy during the school year. Contact me today to get started.
During the 2024 - 2025 school year, I am hosting FREE weekly SAT/ACT prep workshops via Zoom. Please attend these anytime and/or encourage your child to attend to get a better sense of what my program is about and to learn important information about both tests. Everyone is welcome to attend these events. I host them every Friday at 4:00 PM PST via Zoom!
Most students should plan to take the ACT or SAT for the first time early in their junior year. I recommend taking both tests to see if you perform noticeably better on one versus the other based on your percentile. If you do, focus all your energy on the higher scoring test. Work to make that score even higher.
Register for another test later in your junior year and plan to spend at least 6 - 12 weeks studying. There are plenty of ways to study including test prep books, smartphone apps, online courses, and classroom-style programs. However, by far the most effective way to study for either test is targeted, adaptive, one-on-one tutoring. Take a practice test every other week and study at least 3 - 5 hours per week during this period. Use the results of your practice tests to focus your studying in areas for which you need the most improvement.
If your score does not improve to the level you are hoping, use the weeks during the summer between your junior and senior year to study hard so you are ready to earn a high score at the beginning of your senior year in plenty of time for college application deadlines. This is an ideal time to study if your schedule packed with AP courses and extra-curricular activities during the academic year.
Call/Text me at (801) 618 - 7909 or fill out my online registration form so we can discuss your child's goals and circumstances. I will use the information you provide to help create a plan that will work with your child's busy schedule, learning style, vacation plans, interests, and more. Here is how my program typically works.
1. I will have your child take a practice SAT/ACT and score it so I can assess their performance level and determine the areas in which they need the most work. Using your child's baseline score, we will establish a reasonable goal score.
2. I will recommend a timeline and a tutoring schedule based on your child's desired level of improvement. I will also create a general study plan using my curriculum and other published materials. I will continue to measure your child's progress over time and adapt the lessons accordingly.
3. We will cover essential topics in language and mathematics that are known to show up on the ACT and SAT frequently. I will help your child master these concepts through consistent practice and exposure to a wide variety of examples.
4. We will discuss important testing strategies proven to raise scores. These include the process of elimination, estimation, logical deduction, pacing, order of difficulty, using answer choices, estimating, and more!
5. I will assign homework so that your child is constantly practicing ACT/SAT concepts and strategies both during and outside of our scheduled tutoring sessions. This includes taking a full practice test every other week to measure progress and gain experience.
Please fill out the above registration form and I'll get in touch with you within the next 24 hours. You can also contact me directly at my phone number. If I'm not able to answer, I'll return your call as soon as I can. The first hour is always risk-free to ensure we are a great match. If you don't like the service, you do not have to pay!
